Visio 2007 Database Model DDL Generation

Preparing your Visio Database Model Diagram

This FREE DDL Generation Service requires that the Visio 2007 Database Model Diagram be in a very specific format. Personally, I would suggest that you save your Original Database Model Diagram with a different name for use with this DDL Generation Service. Here’s what you must do to set up your document:

  1. The Database Model Diagram upload file must be less than 1.5 MB in size.
  2. The Database Model Diagram must be a Visio Data Model Diagram.
  3. The Database Model Diagram must be saved in XML format (*.vdx).
  4. The Database Model Diagram must have the following Database Document Options (Database -> Options -> Document) set:
    • General -> Symbol Set -> “Relational”
    • General -> Names visible on diagram – “Physical names”
    • Table -> Display -> Everything Checked
    • Table -> Data Types -> “Show physical”
    • Table -> Order -> “Physical order”
    • Relationship -> Show -> “Relationships”, “Cardinality”, Referential actions”
    • Relationship -> Name display -> “Show physical name”

Once your document is ready to go, proceed to the next page and generate your DDL script.
